Saint Emilion
Saint Emilion is in the heart of France’s Bordeaux wine region. The entire village is a UNESCO world heritage site. It is famous for its rich history and spectacular scenery as well as its right bank appellation. While exploring the cobblestone and narrow streets you will enjoy the medieval architecture and the founding going back to ancient Rome. This is for sure a wine village with all its world-famous Château's around. Don’t miss a chance to visit this historic site and remember to book wine tours in advance.
Bergerac
Exploring towns in the southwest. There are many lovely towns and villages to visit driving from Pujols towards Cahors, where the royal Danish family have their wine château - Château Caix. A must see is the town Bergerac situated on the Dordogne River and is famed for its medieval architecture, narrow streets, lovely restaurants and the well-known wine appellation including Montbazilliac. Visiting Bergerac is a great day out and combine your excursion with a trip to Sarlat, the capital of Foie gras, or pay a visit to Saint Foy La Grande on your way back to Pujols.
Libourne
Libourne is the wine-making capital of northern Gironde and lies near Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, 20 minutes from Pujols. The city as a colonia was founded by the Romans and in 1269, under King Edward the 1st of England rebuilt as a bastide. The city took part in many of the battles between England and France and has a long important history in the region. There are quite a few interesting buildings like the Town Hall, the Gate of the Port, the protestant temple, the Gothic Church and the houses surrounding the Town Hall Square - “Place Abel Surchamp”, hosting every weekend the largest fresh food market in the region. Libourne has rail connection to all the Cities in the region and to the rest of France among a TGV train under 3 hrs. going directly to Paris.
Bordeaux
Bordeaux - called little Paris, is a beautiful city to visit. It sits on the banks of the Garonne river and it's a place where history and modernity blend. This old merchant and university city strolls its spectacular streets and promenades, its many squares with restaurants, bistros, cafés and bars - sitting in or out enjoying the cozy life day and night. Discover exquisite wines from the Medoc area and enjoy the local cuisines with oysters and seafood from the Atlantic. Visit the iconic Place de Bourse, the famous promenade Saint Catherine - Europe's longest shopping street. Also, a must is the Cité de Vine or crossing the Napoleon bridge to L’Espace Darwin. Visit he Architect BIC’s cultural center, the German’s submarine hangar, “Mallot” France’s largest bookstore, the antique market, “Les Halles” or enjoy an evening in the opera house. Bordeaux offers unique adventures only 40 minutes from Pujols.
Perigueux
Driving an hour north of Pujols you can visit the 2000-year-old city of Perigueux, the capital of the Perigord region. The town is known for its landmark Saint-Front Cathedral, with specular domes and turrets and the square in front. The Vesunna Gallo-Roman Museum is a must. It contains an excavated Roman house with the remains of baths and murals. In front is the Tour de Vesoné part of a ruined Roman temple. The Périgord Museum of Art and Archeology have ancient artifacts, African sculptures and modern paintings. The streets and squares of Perigueux are charming with good shops and nice restaurants.
