Golf courses

Grand Saint-Émilionnais Golf Club, designed by renowned architect Tom Doak, is a scenic 18-hole course just 15 minutes from Maison Cayrol. Set among rolling hills, forests, and vineyards, it offers an enjoyable experience for golfers of all levels. The clubhouse restaurant provides a welcoming setting for lunch, whether you're a golfer or simply visiting for a nice lunch. Other recommended courses in the region include Golf Bordelais, Cabot Bordeaux, and Golf de Teynac, all known for their excellent facilities and hospitality. For those who wish to combine golf with a day by the ocean, Garden Golf de Lacanau offers play close to the Atlantic coast

River Adventures

The Dordogne River offers a wide range of activities for visitors to enjoy. Local operators provide everything from relaxed canoe and kayak trips, where you are taken upstream and can gently drift back while taking in the scenery and birdlife or enjoy a swim, to more active pursuits such as rowing, water skiing and fishing. For inspiration and local recommendations, visit the tourist office in Castillon-la-Bataille, where you can find information and contacts for a variety of river experiences.

Wine Tasting and Famous Chateaux

The Gironde region is renowned for its countless picturesque châteaux and world-class wine estates. The wine regions of Saint-Émilion, Pomerol, and the Médoc are home to many of the world's most prestigious châteaux and appellations. Visits and tastings can be arranged directly with the estates, or we can help organise guided tours. For a different perspective, bicycles can be hired in Saint-Émilion or at Château Soutard, allowing you to explore the vineyards at a leisurely pace eventually with a picnic lunch.

For a memorable day trip, we also recommend visiting Sauternes, famous for its sweet white wines, the iconic Château d’Yquem, and the beautiful Château Guiraud, where you can enjoy both wine tasting and lunch.

Wine tasting at local family-owned vineyards around Pujols is also easy to arrange. While some estates may require advance booking for a dégustation, others welcome visitors directly from the road. Near Créon, you can also visit a British-run vineyard known for supplying wine to renowned chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Rick Stein, both of whom have, incidentally, stayed at Maison Cayrol.

The Atlantic

The beautiful sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast are just a 90-minute drive from Pujols, west of Bordeaux, and make for a wonderful day trip. Lacanau is renowned for its surf culture, while Cap Ferret is a favourite destination for its relaxed atmosphere, excellent oysters, and fresh seafood. Arcachon offers long beaches, a lively market, and a casino, while nearby Pyla is home to the spectacular Dune du Pilat, Europe's tallest sand dune.

Hiking

Pujols and its surrounding countryside offer excellent opportunities for hiking. Several marked trails pass through the village, making it easy to begin your walk straight from Maison Cayrol. The gently rolling landscape unfolds through woodlands, vineyards, and open countryside, revealing far-reaching views and picturesque sceneries.
